Take Action

High voter turnout is a sign of a healthy democracy. Increased young voter participation is a sign of a promising future.

We have a lot of work to do if the promise of American democracy is to come to fruition.

 Here’s the problem

Young people’s voices are not being heard because they are voting at lower levels compared to older voters. This weakens American democracy.

We have to remove systemic barriers to voting so turnout can increase in every voting district across America. The Young Vote explores these problems and profiles the young people mobilizing to implement solutions.

 What can we do?

Make Voting More Accessible

In a democracy, it should not be complicated, time-consuming, or expensive to register to vote and get to the polls. When we reduce the systemic barriers to voting that will allow more young people to vote, it’s a win for all voters across all age brackets. To support, visit Mobile Voting.

Implement Civics Education in All 50 states

Voting is the bedrock of democracy. How to vote and how to understand what’s on a ballot should be a protected part of academic curriculums in every voting district in the country so every child has access to high-quality civics education. To support, visit 50X2026.

Normalize Open Primaries

With so few choices, it’s not fair—nor does it make sense—to make people pick one side or the other to participate in primary elections. As more young people identify as Independents, it’s time to open up the full voting process to all eligible voters. To support, visit Students for Open Primaries and Open Primaries
